How terpenes and CBD Flower work together

The symphony of cannabinoids and terpenes that make up each strain work together to enhance or alter the effects of one another. This makes up the different flavor profiles and effects that are unique to each CBD strain. The tiny resin glands on each flower or bud that we all love, known as trichomes are not only rich in cannabinoids but also rich in terpenes.

How do terpenes and cannabinoids work together?

In music, for example, you have different instruments and tones working together to create a specific overall sound. Depending on the individual, they may experience joy, sadness or relaxation from these sounds. Similarly, the symphony of cannabinoids and terpenes in each CBD strain work together to enhance or alter the effect of one another. This makes up different flavor profiles and effects that are unique to each strain. A few common terpenes found in cannabis include:

Caryophyllene

Has a peppery and woody aroma also found in basil, oregano, pepper and cinnamon. Know to promote properties such as pain relief, anti-anxiety, anti-depressant and sleep aid.

Pinene

Has a piney aroma, also found in pine needles, sage, rosemary, and basil. Known to enhance memory and alertness.

Myrcene

Has an earthy and musky aroma, also found in mango. Hops, thyme and citrus. Known to promote properties such as pain relief, antibacterial, and neuroprotectivity.

Although terpenes are continually being researched, everyone is different. The ensemble effects of cannabinoids and terpenes are still being studied.

Conclusion

Cannabis contains a vast array of compounds and while some may be more abundant than others, they all play an important role in how the plant affects you. Ocimene may be a lesser-known terp, but it’s still a crucial part of the entourage effect. Protect every part of the cannabis experience by always using a terpene shield by Boveda.
